Top 4 Age Positive Beauty and Style Tips

Published

on

By

It’s time for a healthy heaping of irreverence, gratitude and common sense. New York Fashion Week for giving models over age 50 a record 10 runway appearances out of 2,601. And France for passing a law stating all altered advertising photos must carry a “retouched” warning (from a phony Chanel bag to a filler-enhanced face). Instead, here are 4 age-positive ways to start the holiday season

Get Skin-Tone Glasses

(Source: youtube)

Remember how skin-tone shoes elongate your legs? Skin-tone glasses restore the structure to the face in the same way. Hence, nude glasses are the fastest way to update your looks. Therefore, especially in shades of amber, whiskey, honey, taupe or blush that are close to your own skin tone. See for yourself: Check out Kyra Sedgwick’s stylish glasses in Ten Days in the Valley. Stay loyal to classic modified cat-eye and angular “nerd” styles. Case closed.

Think Of Gray And White Hairs As Glitter

(Source: bustle)

Blend in those sparkly strands with cool silvery or warm golden salon highlights. Ask for balayage — a free-form technique where highlights are painted on with a brush for an irregular root line — that looks natural and won’t leave a ring of regrowth at the scalp. And major bonus: Highlights around the face also brighten tired, ashy or sallow skin tones for a no-makeup-needed radiance.

Dress Age-Irrelevant

(Source: limeandlife)

Who says you can’t wear a black fisherman cap, short-sleeve or message T-shirts, funky sneakers, slouchy Army-green cargo pants and your hair in a tousle? A little infusion of urban, hippie or eclectic style makes every wardrobe, from classic to casual, a little cooler. Celebs like Meg Ryan, Lisa Bonet, Sharon Stone, Téa Leoni, Robin Wright, Halle Berry and Calista Flockhart all dress in age-irrelevant but supercool ways in their private lives.

Switch To Black Jeans

(Source: riverisland)

Black jeans sharpen your silhouette and add an urban edge. They look dressier than blues (even dark-blue washes) and can substitute for real pants. Worn monochromatically with a black T-shirt, sweater or jacket and black booties or loafers, it’s a strategy that’s polished and pulled together, but comfy. Pick up a pair of black velvet jeans for extra-effortless glam this year.

Published

By

Welcome to the dreamy world of bridal fashion! We would imagine, since being engaged, you’ve been asked a dizzying array of wedding dress questions – what you like, when you’re shopping, who’s going, are you wearing sleeves, can they come, who’s your favorite designer, who’s buying? Who knew shopping could seem stressful?!

Before you head out with all your saved photos and the will to power through countless wedding gowns, we’ve got a few pointers for you. Like, should you bring a bra to your appointment? Or are there any secret costs to know about up front? Brush up on these tips before slipping into your first dress.

Undergarments Are Optional

Most bridal shops have a few different types of bras in the fitting room. If you have a favorite strapless style or plan on wearing a particular body shaper, go ahead and bring it. You’ll ultimately need your gown-specific undergarments for your first fitting but not your initial appointment.

Set A Budget

Before you get carried away Pinning all those diamond encrusted wedding dresses, take a look at your wedding budget and set a number you’re willing to spend on your gown. This will not only narrow your choices (such an endless amount of beautiful gowns out there!) but also help you hone your expectations in the dress shopping process.

Don’t Bring Too Many People

Bringing a big group to the salon is a gown shopping don’t. Enlist one or two of your closest friends or family members to help you start your search. You can find the gown that best suits you and your style and not feels pressured by too many opinions.

Don’t Forget The Little Things

Your wedding gown budget doesn’t just include the dress. Your veil or headpiece, accessories (think jewelry and shoes), undergarments and alterations will also add to your bottom line. Factor in these costs before you give the salesperson your final shopping budget.

Plan (For The Shopping) Ahead

Believe it or not, gowns typically take anywhere from 4-10 month to be made. Factor in shipping times (is your dress coming from Paris?) alterations and multiple fittings – in the end, your gown could take up to 12 months to be ready.

Don’t have that kind of time? Some designers offer rush services, but be prepared to pay an extra fee. Out of timely options? If you’re happy to get a professional cleaning and are lucky enough to fit in sample sizes, salons often allow brides to buy samples off the rack for a lower price.

The New Thing Called Workout Fragrances

Published

on

By

When you think of exercise and perfume together. Consequently, you will think of a mixture of scents from body odor and a nauseatingly sweet floral scent. But if you’re looking for ways to keep a fresh smell besides deodorant and a bar of soap. Hence, it turns out that you’re not the only one. Scentbird reported that “workout fragrances” are currently one of the most commonly searched terms on their site.

So before you totally give up on any hope of smelling tolerable during that spin class. Women’s Health talked to Anne McClain, founder and perfumer of Brooklyn’s MCMC Fragrances to learn if and how to prevent some of our workout stank without creating an even more distracting scent.

Of course, no one should feel as though they need a workout perfume, obvi, but if it piques your interest, of if you’re going from barre class to happy hour drinks, go with these tips:

Apply In Advance

(Source: BeautyStat)

You need to roll on your scent before you walk into the gym. Apply your workout fragrance 20 minutes before you exercise, so the potency has a chance to dissipate a bit, especially if you’re going to be in a confined area!

Use A Roll-On

(Source: wholesalesuppliesplus)

Spray perfumes tend to stick on your clothes and skin much longer than roll on types and also have more wafting power, which is great for when you need it all day, but not for just an hour at the gym. McClain recommends using an hoil to roll directly onto your skin (try on your wrists and behind your ears) to keep the fragrance fresh, but not overpowering your treadmill neighbor.

Think Lighter Scents

(Source: Amazon)

Lighter scents will help you feel more energized as you take on your workout as well as are less noticeable to sensitive noses. McClain recommends fresh, citrus fragrances over deep, muskier smells that can be distracting and heavy!
