Tips And Tricks For Solo Female Travelers
Is it possible for a woman to travel the world and stay safe? Absolutely. Even if you steer clear of resorts. Even if you go to developing countries. Even if you don’t speak the local language. Even if you’re traveling alone.
But the women who took these trips did so well in part because they prioritized their safety while traveling. What does that mean? Well, this list of travel safety tips for women will give you an idea!
Travel During the Day When Possible
It is a fact that more incidents happen at night than during the day so, if you are going to be embarking on long journeys, try and travel during the day.
If you do have to take very long journeys, try using trusted transportation and looking for a private cabin or couchette that can be locked. It’s always helpful to plan on arriving at a destination during the daytime.
Fake It Until You Make It
Nobody starts out as a wonderfully confident solo traveler. This is something that comes over time as you become more comfortable finding your way by yourself and making your own choices.
However, solo women who look lost or confused can often attract the wrong kind of attention. Try to look confident and walk as though you know where you’re going until you develop your own natural confidence. If you ever do feel uncomfortable, use your best judgment and seek help.
Stay in Touch via Social Media
Letting people know where and when you will be traveling is a very good safety blanket. While friends or family at home may be limited in what they can do, leaving a breadcrumb trail of your travels on Facebook or a blog is a great way to reassure everyone that you’re safe and enjoying yourself.
As you meet fellow travelers, becoming friends on Facebook is a great way to keep in touch. I’ve met so many people throughout my travels that I still talk to regularly because of it.
Try To Blend In
One of the easiest ways to attract the wrong type of attention is to wear clothing and to carry yourself in a very different way than the local women. Avoiding outfits that scream “TOURIST!” is some pretty obvious advice.
If the country you are visiting has women that dress conservatively, do the same, as this will help you to avoid being singled out as a potentially vulnerable target.
Be Cautious With Your Possessions
Most people these days travel with a camera, a smartphone, and a tablet or laptop. These will all be very attractive items for thieves.
Try and avoid flashing these around and only take them out of your pack when necessary. It is also smart to keep these possessions within your reach at all times, along with key documents such as your passport, visa, and wallet.
It’s Nothing Like Cast Away
One of the biggest hurdles for those who are thinking about traveling solo to overcome is that it will be lonely. I promise you won’t be painting a face on a volleyball and crying over your friends back home. There may be times when a bump in the road makes you a bit homesick, but remember that travel is a journey.
In fact, traveling solo is one of the BEST ways to meet people abroad. It’s much easier to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger when you don’t have a travel partner. You’ll be more open to meeting new people and you’ll be more approachable.
10 Last Minute Snacks That Will Totally Wow Your Guests
When the impromptu party starts at your place, it is always a nice surprise. What’s not nice is that you have nothing to serve your guests. No matter what the number of guests is, you will want to serve the complete package. Which is why we have a list of 10 last minute snacks to get you ready to be the perfect hostess.
Poblano Pineapple Salsa
Taste the rainbow, then dip your chips in it. This show-stopping salsa will keep your guests ready to party. The pineapple will keep them dancing all night long.
This shareable snack calls for spring veggies like asparagus, but you can mix and match to create what’s basically an adult pizza. Not that I’m saying a regular pizza is bad.
Baked Brie Bacon Jam & Crispy Crostinis
The combination of hot and melty cheese plus devine bacon jam and toasty bread sounds like heaven. Am I right?
Pigs In A Blanket
Has there ever been a more perfect crowd-pleaser? Prep these the day before your shindig, then throw ’em in the oven right before people arrive. Perfection.
Zucchini Chips With Creamy Basil Avocado Dip
Vegetables disguised as fried food are always welcome. Think of this food like green french fries. I mean, it does sound delicious.
Lobster Deviled Eggs
To make these luxe bites, slice 12 hard-boiled eggs in half and remove the egg yolks. Combine yolks with ½ cup of mayo, 2 tablespoons French’s Mustard, and ½ tablespoon Sriracha in a blender, and blend until smooth. In a separate bowl, combine 4 oz. cooked lobster meat and 3 tablespoons of spicy mayo. Fill the egg whites with the yolk mixture, and top with the lobster mixture. Garnish with chopped scallions.
Yogurt in guac is actually an excellent low-key idea. Just add 2 tablespoons Two Good Vanilla Greek Lowfat Yogurt to your usual recipe. Want it extra bold? Top it with everything bagel seasoning.
Butternut Squash Kale Mac & Cheese
Who says mac & cheese isn’t a snack type of food? Let your friends try this recipe of yours and see them go wild over a mere mac & cheese.
Easy Chicken Skewers With Jalapeno Cheddar Dip
This combo is a total dream: A creamy, cheesy dip makes the perfect topping for simple chicken skewers.
Two-Ingredient Cream Cheese Frosting
100 percent the easiest sweet dip situation you’ll ever make: Just combine one container Two Good Vanilla Greek Lowfat Yogurt with ½ cup of cream cheese. Serve with fruit, pretzels, or anything else you wanna shove straight into your face.
5 Delightful Cocktails To Accompany Your Easter Brunch
There are certain expectations on Easter brunch with family. Starting from the egg hunt, the great spread, and a bunch of chocolate bunnies. Starting from this year, complete the tradition with one of the cocktails down on the list. I’m sure, your brunch would never be the same again.
Combine 1 ¼ oz. Tanqueray London Dry Gin, ¾ oz. lemon juice, and ¾ oz. simple syrup in an ice-filled rocks glass. Drizzle ¼ Creme de Mure (a blackberry liqueur) around the inner rim, and garnish with a lemon wedge and blackberry, if you feel like it.
Lavender Honey Fizz
Add 1 ½ oz. The Botanist gin, ¾ oz. lemon juice, ¾ oz. white wine aperitif, ½ oz. honey, and 4 dashes of rosemary bitters to a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice, shake, and strain over ice into a rocks glass. Top with 1 ½ oz. soda water, and garnish with 2 sprigs of lavender. There you have a pretty cocktail.
Bacardi Old Cuban
Shake 2 parts BACARDÍ Reserva Ocho rum, 4 mint leaves, 1 part sugar syrup, 1 ¼ part lime juice, and 2 dashes bitters in a cocktail mixer. Strain into a coupe glass and top with 2 ½ parts Prosecco. Garnish with a mint-leaf float. You will feel like you’re in Cuba as you sip the drink.
Combine 1 oz. fresh carrot juice and 4 oz. Rosé All Day sparkling wine in a Champagne flute. Garnish with a carrot. I’d say this is one of the healthiest cocktails I’ve ever know of.
Combine 1 ½ oz. Tito’s Handmade Vodka, 1 0z. lemon juice, and ¾ oz. simple syrup in a glass with ice. Top with club soda, and garnish with 2 lemon wheels and sprigs of rosemary and thyme. It is figuratively like a garden in your mouth.
